In 2018, legislators passed amendments to media laws which allow the government to prosecute people who spread false information online. The law permits social media networks and similar sites to be blocked if deemed to be in violation. That same year the Committee to Protect Journalists watchdog came out against this legislation, alleging that it could lead to tighter media regulations and increased prosecution of journalists by requiring websites to identify post authors.[1]
