From ADTAC Disinformation Inventory
Legislation
In April 2020 President Abdelmadjid Tebboune approved a bill changing the country's penal code to criminalize the spreading of "false news" that is considered harmful to "public order and state security".[1][2] Lawbreakers can be punished by up to three years in prison and fines of up to 300.000 Algerian Dinar.[3] The law has been opposed by protestors as they view it as infringing upon their rights.[4]
